Yesterday was also the coldest day overall ever recorded this early in the season... With a mean temperature of 4.7°C. This was a full two degrees colder than the previous record of 6.7°C on Sept 3, 1885. It was the coldest day ever recorded between June 9 and Sept 6

I can't remember such whiplash at least in my lifetime. From 38c to snow potential in the same week. Crazy stuff...

February was colder than January in 7 of the last 8 winters, so it's definitely been a recent trend. So far, the 30-year average keeps January colder, but that could change if this trend continues. 21st century January averaged -15.1, February -15.3, so the averages are closing in on each other

Southwestern Manitoba had a much colder winter than Winnipeg. Brandon had 21 days below -30c and the mean temperature of -15.7c was almost two degrees colder than Winnipeg.

Regina was also colder with 17 days below -30 and a mean temperature of -15.2c. They had their 15th coldest February.

An interesting aspect of 2024 also was the frequency of thunderstorms. The 31 thunderstorm days at the Airport was the most since 2007. Note how we seem to be finally ending a long stretch of quiet years from 2008 to 2021 where almost every year had fewer t-storms than normal.
