Voted 🗳️ at the Netherlands' embassy in Berlin today!

"It is not as if the majority of Russian tanks on the battlefield have been older models pulled from storage and refurbished."

As explained above, this is incorrect for at least 2024. Ironically, the source cited for this claim in the article itself explains this in its second sentence...

Again, refurbishment plays a role. As the 2025 Munich Security Report explains: On average, of the 125 MBTs Russia is estimated to have "generated" monthly last year, 100 were refurbished old MBTs and only approximately 25 were actual new production.

On MBTs, the article's numbers are even more questionable.

"The UK Ministry of Defence assessed as of January 2024 that Russia had the ability to “produce 100 main battle tanks per month”.

No, the UK MoD stated Russia can "generate" 100 MBT per month. "generate" ≠ "produce."

Grenscontoles daar? Ik geef het je te doen. 6/7

The "Bez Granic" (Polish for "Borderless") ferry over the Oder from Güstebieser Loose 🇩🇪 to Gozdowice 🇵🇱, run by the local community. So far, no sign of the new German government's "nationwide border controls" here (luckily).

The slide continues. Note that - due to sanctions and other reasons - prices for oil from #Russia are even a bit lower than those for WTI crude oil displayed here.

Meanwhile, the Russian federal budget assumes an oil price of $70 for 2025.
April 9, 2025 at 12:06 PM
"Analysts at MMI have warned that if oil prices remain low, the government may have no choice but to slash expenditures to maintain fiscal stability."

I guess the #Kremlin will have to hope that nothing depresses oil prices further, like a trade war, or #OPEC increasing production. Ah, wait...

February 17, 2025 at 4:55 PM

Oil prices immediately dropped as #Trump delivered this remark in #Davos.

Although this alone will not simply "stop the war" against #Ukraine as he claimed, a long-term low oil price would cause serious headaches in the #Kremlin, as it would make #Russia 's serious economic problems more imminent.

Some very interesting results in this report indeed. They are partly contradictory as well though:

While 65% of Germans want to spend >3% of GDP on defense, 65% oppose Germany taking a military leadership role in Europe (although spending 3% on defense would imply that in practice imo)

An important point indeed. Perhaps you've seen this already, but this 2023 report by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre has an interesting graph which illustrates your argument (p. 124): op.europa.eu/en/publicati....

Ten years ago, forces loyal to #Russia shot down flight #MH17 with an anti-aircraft missile provided by the Russian Army, killing all 298 people on board.

The terror of the #Putin regime has claimed many more innocent lives since. It continues to do so to this day.

Opdat wij niet vergeten.

Occasional reminder for those still arguing that #Ukraine should "negotiate" with #Russia that #Putin is not at all interested in serious #peace negotiations:

Encouraging to see so many Russians in Berlin coming together in opposition to #Russia ‘s oppressive regime and its war against #Ukraine for Alexei #Navalny ’s 48th birthday yesterday. Happy birthday, Alexei Anatolyevich.

Reminds me of this story: French Navy defends use of million-euro missiles to down Houthi drones (defensenews.com). We included a graph on this challenge for air defense in the face of ever-wider proliferation of cheap loitering munitions in a report last year: securityconference.org/en/publicati...

AWOL (Absence Without Leave) convictions in #Russia are breaking records: 648 in March 2024, almost 300 in the first 1,5 weeks of April. Struggling to find enough manpower for its war against Ukraine, Putin's regime is cracking down on deserters/draft dodgers. en.zona.media/article/2024...
