Anyway back to the Segal report on antisemitism. The foreword mentions hate-filled chants outside the Sydney Opera House - wasn't this disproven? After initial investigations by Antoinette Lattouf and Cam Wilson at @crikey.com.au? And then the ABC unfairly dismissed Lattouf later that same month?

The thing that stands out to me most in the widely discredited IHRA definition of antisemitism is that it's considered antisemitic to apply "double standards by requiring of [Israel] a behaviour not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation". And "democratic" means ...?

This misleading headline claims "Jewish groups back antisemitism report, while critics warn of curbs on free speech". Yet the critics quoted here are Jewish too. www.theage.com.au/politics/fed...

I can't believe I karened Shanghainese into the Medicare portal by complaining about it for years and years 😂
May 28, 2025 at 8:48 AM
omg but I just discovered Shanghainese exists in the Medicare portal!

did I manifest this by complaining incessantly? (and making a submission to the 2023 Review of the Australian Standard Classification of Languages - yeah maybe that)

never thought I'd hear politicians talk so explicitly about re-entry. also I'm not sure he should be labouring this metaphor coz I don't think there's public consensus that getting back together with your ex is a wise move

Labor has 93 seats at current count and the Coalition 43 - but broken up, the various blues look pretty paltry

Greens overtook the Liberals for the first time in my electorate this year (Footscray and metro west). It's still safely Labor this time but cool to see the 2PP flip, and a +6.48 swing to the Greens and +1.95 to the Socialists.

But then I went over to the high school and they had everything I wanted! Sausages with cheese and onion, chocolate crackles, honey joys, Anzacs and soft drink. So good

Good Weekend revealed last week that Advance ran 7 social media channels to campaign against the Voice. From 2018 to 2024, Advance collected more than $30 million, mostly from mining barons and the like. The leadership is pretty much all "retired" Liberals.

In what language does "expand" mean "we're not increasing funding but you can apply for it in smaller increments"?

Seems like she was schtupping Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Ione Skye all in roughly the same time (mid 90s). Madonna would fly her to Paris for just a night; Skye says her safeword was 'London' ✈️

Last year staff, freelancers and even some 4-legged comrades stood together at the strike. We're not backing down now until Nine management commit to fair rates for freelancers. Sign the petition here: www.megaphone.org.au/petitions/fr...

Freelance rates at The Age & SMH have dropped 59% in the last 20 years. Last year a gorgeous joint strike of staff + freelancers pushed management to negotiate with freelancers but since then they've stonewalled us. Sign our petition: www.megaphone.org.au/petitions/fr... @withmeaa.bsky.social

FAIR RATES FOR FREELANCERS AT NINE 🧵

I first wrote for The Age in 2019. I was paid about 50c per word - half the rate that the paper was paying freelancers back in the early 2000s.

Freelance journos shoulder growing personal and political risks while our pay has been declining for decades - sign the petition today demanding that Nine resume negotiations for minimum rates and a collective freelance agreement! @withmeaa.bsky.social

I'm at the Melbourne rally now and MEAA is the only labour union with flags here as far as I can see. So necessary given the harm of media disinfo - as one sign here says, "a lot of journos have our blood on their hands"
