I enjoy talking about tea, spirituality, politics, and where they intersect.
I was setting up the camera yesterday for a video and I had our new trainee, Wang, serve as the hand model. I noticed he had the character 忍 (rěn) tattooed on his forearm. Endurance, patience, restraint.

Today's brew: Some raw pu'er from Xigui with a few jasmine blossoms thrown in. Not to be confused with jasmine tea, which is a whole thing.

Today's brew: Some black tea from Mengku Village with a few slivers of orange peel. Invigorating! I couldn't stop drinking it.

Today's brew: A very light barley tea served with lunch at a local halal restaurant.

Today's brew: 2021 Dahu Mountain Pu'er. We have some of the most lovely teas sitting around here. Where did this come from?

Today's brew: Coffee from my moka pot that my brother got me for my birthday. I'm using Bialetti beans, but I've had better coffee from this thing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Today's brew: I found this raw pu'er lying around. It's from a place called Jiulong, but not 九龙 as in "nine dragons" as you might expect, it's 旧笼 as in "old cage/coop." Don't you love that? It must be a village around here. In any case, I'm loving their fragrant tea!

Today's brew: Bingdao Baiwu in my newly sourced "glass menagerie" tea set.

Today's stir fry: Bamboo caterpillars and peppers. If this is the future of protein, count me in.

Today's brew: A fermented drink with rice, egg, brown sugar, and I'm not sure what else. It was nice! I could have done without the egg.

Brew of the day: Yes I still drink coffee on occasion. And I love my adorable French press!

Today's brew: Raw pu'er at a farmstay restaurant in Shuangjiang. A very common traditional way of serving tea in Yunnan is "grandpa style" from a clay pitcher like this.

I need to learn more about this. I do see transphobia legitimized by mainstream media as something I need to be able to thoughtfully confront with my friends.
I got mad at the New York Times after their editorial board released an opinion piece condemning Trump's anti-trans EOs and I decided to write about how the paper of record laundered transphobia into the mainstream and paved the road for Trump's transphobia. www.patreon.com/posts/nyt-ed...

I appreciate the sentiment and I'm doing my best. For me I feel like engaging them in conversation is better than calling them out, but I want to see that, too.
Why am I telling you this, Christian friends? SO YOU CAN BREAK THE CYCLE.

Those are real Christians. They're too real, if you ask me. Get into the habit of calling them out, and helping them change, while it is still safe for you to do so.
Not for nothing, all the people who have told me at some point in the past that "those aren't real Christians" have, by this point, jumped on the MAGAwagon.

All of them.

ALL OF THEM.

If you're telling yourself that those aren't real Christians, you're just marking time before you sign up as well.

Today's brew: High elevation green tea at the Nest in Shuangjiang, Lincang. Delightful.
February 9, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Today's brew: sun-dried black tea with almond milk and maple syrup - my favorite milk tea at the moment. And yes I'm drinking from my gongdaobei (pitcher) - my mug broke!

Today's brew: Ripe pu'er on my flight back to Yunnan - quite nice to be honest. Yes, I'm in business class. Don't judge - it was only a few hundred extra yuan.

This morning's brew: Fannings from the processing of sun-dried black tea. And I'm borrowing Ma Long's glass tea cup which is etched with the Heart Sutra.

I didn't find spirituality interesting until I gave up needing something from the spiritual world.
