@wecandobettermpls.bsky.social pays to promote anti-Chughtai posts on FB to reach out to residents and voters of Ward 10 like me. I made this comment to engage them in democratic debate. They deleted it.
How are you doing better by suppressing free speech of Ward 10 residents?

In his recent oversimplified misunderstanding of queer theory, Matthew Vines wrote, "a heterosexual person can be 'queer' in this configuration if they simply reject monogamy."

Everything is terrible and I’m angry and upset and tired.
But also, I spent the afternoon making this beautiful quiche that I’m going to go share with friends who are also angry, upset, and tired.
And tomorrow I’m going to keep working against the bullshit.

4: There’s a sacrifice! The ritual echoes Christian baptism: “DIE AND LIVE AGAIN!” It is offered to a goddess al-Lat in ancient Nabatea. Women's leadership in this cult parallels texts we have from the Roman-era cult to the Egyptian goddess Isis. Newitz even notes al-Lat was elsewhere known as Isis!

2: “I write pamphlets about how I’m fucking an angel” (Soph).
Newitz’s depiction of Spiritualism shows how women have long made positive associations between sex and spirituality. Using religious language allows women, including queer women!, to share pleasure and hide it in plain sight.

Wanna learn about religion by reading queer scifi?

All the crap people are giving all the cool folks leaving for Bluesky keeps reminding me of this amazing short story, HARMONY by Seanan McGuire, that I loved to give students to make sure at least one professor told them it's okay to take the ball and leave.

Am I overdressed or is everyone else underdressed to cheer on our all-star friends’ kickball game???

Just finished this book that I picked up at a queer bookshop in London, because how could I not read a book titled after Ruth 1:16? It’s an absolutely stunning story that explores family secrets, queerness, and diaspora—just like the book of Ruth.

Indexing for a brilliant colleague today! Sarah Emanuel's latest book--forthcoming with @fortresspress.bsky.social--is PHENOMENAL. It is definitely going to be one of the most important books written about Paul, and everyone needs to read it ASAP once it's published.

@older.bsky.social just casually dropping in one series that, in the future, people will be excited to attend opera performances of one of her other series…is one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen done so seamlessly in sci-fi 🤯🤯🤯

"We avoid the illegitimate, sex worker Mary because she forces us to confront the ways our Christmas theologies are rooted in a pious purity that not only criminalizes sex work but also perpetuates deviant assumptions about nonnormative sexual arrangements." (from my queer lectionary comments)

Time to get serious about this #aarsbl23 #acrel paper on queerness, disability, and ideologies of cure. From the abstract:
"When it comes to ableism and cisheteronormativity, it is easier to cure individuals than design societies that don't privilege certain embodiments as 'normal' or 'whole.'"

Photo of me from Chicago this weekend, mostly posting to confirm that you can go to SETTINGS and select "require ALT text" and then Bluesky won't let you hit "post" until you've remembered to add an image description. So: do that.
Also, I look divine in this pic!
