Finally. Finally. Finally done with my query letter. It’s more stressful than the novel itself. My brain is fried.

I do love how Jolani speaks… using terms like the “state”. What state? The Syrian levant is controlled by unelected gunmen, majority of whom are jihadi islamists and are/were part of terrorist groups. Why should anyone, let alone at-risk ethnic and religious minorities, submit to this “state”?

On Instagram they’re shouting “We will destroy everything created by colonial Europe.”

On twitter they’re shouting “How dare Kurds challenge the Middle Eastern borders created by colonial Europe!”

On TV they shout about the need to commit genocide against Kurds in order to protect our human rights

Turkey’s policy toward Kurds is incredibly counterproductive. Turkey has been pushing to become the major power in the region since 1923, but the country hasn’t seen a single year of peace for over a century due to how it brutalizes Kurds and other minorities.

On Şewî Yelda (Yalda Night), we stay up with family and friends, through the darkness of the longest night of the year, and tell stories and keep each other company. We use joy and laughter to protect each other from the evil spirits that roam the world on this long night.

They’re making documentary style videos where they’re claiming the Assad family are not Arab Alawites, but actually they’re Kakai Kurds or Jews. It sounds like a joke but this type of propaganda is used, and has been used, heavily to incite hate against Kurds in the Middle East.

It’s been said a million times already but this really is a once in a generation moment for Kurds. I’ve seen more Kurmancî speakers on Soranî channels this week than ever before, and clearly our people are longing for unity. If political parties squander this, it’s unforgivable.

Kurds fleeing the Turkish-backed terrorists are dying on the long journey to safety. Now a 4 month old baby has died of cold. It reminds of the stories I heard from my parents of when they had to run for their lives. One day we’ll get to stay home. Until then we have only ourselves and our mountains

We’re all collectively dying and the media is busy talking about Biden pardoning his son. We’re all Virgil and we’re living through Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Listening to another Arabic speaker with Russian accent. It’s actually kind of pretty. It’s so clearly Russian in the vowels, R, and S sounds and intonations.
Just heard Arabic spoken with a Russian accent on Al Arabiya. Fascinating stuff.

No one doing a single fucking thing tho. That’s important to mention.
Far-right populist party leaders, left-wing socialist party leaders, pro-Assad figures, conservative US think-tanks, Gulf Arab media figures, and Israeli politicians suddenly all have Kurds on their tongues. What a weird weird time this is.

The mountains and our own people are the only friends Kurdistan’s ever had and ever will have. We’ve been taught this lesson more than 10 times in my short lifetime, let alone our long history. No friends but the mountains.

Reading the news has been surreal. Nothing confirmed or definitive yet, but it’s all moved so fast. Assad might finally be gone. But also can’t stop thinking about all those lives lost over the last decade and a half. These lines on maps are so arbitrary and meaningless.

The Basque edition of Kurdistan + 100 is launching at the Durango Book Fair next month!

Kurdish writers set their sights on 2046, a century after the fall of Mahabad, asking what the future might hold for Kurdish statehood.

If you market your app as “Duolingo but for…” I will not use it. Not only will I not use it, I will also leave it a bad review. Do better.

Hello everyone!

Actually what it feels like is how getting a new phone used to feel like. Before the whole migrating all your old apps and stuff was done automatically, and you got to choose what of the old phone to bring to the new one. Similar feeling to the aftermath of spring cleaning.
Bluesky right now is so nice. It feels like Twitter around 2013-2014 but less angry. Of course the population size is similar. Anyway I hope it remains this way for a year or two at least.

Also this might have to do with the fact that I’ve gotten terrific feedback from 2 of my beta readers today and yesterday. But the sun thing too.
First day of sun in Denmark and suddenly… suddenly life is a breeze 🌞🌞🌞

Scrolling down the timeline and there’s no bitcoin ads or fascist posts. Weird sense of ease I’m not used to from social media
