Yup! I'm always so surprised by the number of people who've never called Congress. It's like hiring someone & then never telling them what you'd like them to do.

I hope you've had time to call or email King. I always call in-state offices when lobbying Congress. I never go to voice mail & because I keep my message to 1-2 sentences, calls take about a minute. If I have more to say, I follow up with an email, but staffers say calls are most effective.

Hook on a pedometer. At least you'll feel like you've accomplished something.

(I get tic-y & twitchy & seizure-y myself & hate it. Wishing you some real rest.)

"she being Brand" is a lot of fun to read out loud. Girl as fast car, fast car as girl.

It's 1 of eec's poems where the typography tells you how to pace your recitation.

CSIS can't talk to Poilievre about reports thst Indian agents were engaged in election interference on his behalf because PP won't get the necessary clearance. He's got his fingers in his ears. www.bbc.com/news/article...
India accused of meddling in Canada's Conservative Party leadership race
Conservative Pierre Poilievre and Liberal Mark Carney were both asked on the campaign trail about allegations of foreign meddling.

At least with pork barrel bills, the money goes back to the legislator's district. Letting senators sue DOJ $500k, particularly for investigations that have already happened, is putting bacon right in the legislator's fridge. thehill.com/homenews/sen...

Thanks for the Horace Pippen painting. I looked at it & Gwendolyn Brooks's "Kitchenette Building" spooled through my brain. www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43308/...

I don't know it, either (64-year-old white chick in Maine). I think going with the kid's "cops are people, too," makes sense.

Wonderful colors. Thanks for this moment of loveliness in my scroll!

Politico's right: 4 polls & the results have been "wildly mixed" in ME Dem primary. EMILYs List showed Platner losing to Collins, but their failure to poll Mills v Collins strikes me as a sign they're not confident in their preferred candidate. Their poll had a high 3.7% error margin. #MEpolitics
EMILYs List poll: Platner will lose Maine Senate race
The Maine Senate race is all but a must-win for Democrats looking to take back the Senate.

Exactly. I went back & counted: men have won the Booker 8 times in the past 10 years.

Thanks for mentioning Lily King's new novel. The book has 163 holds on first copy returned of 62 copies in the Maine state library system. I added my name to the queue!

In the past 10 years, 8 men have won the Booker (David Szalay, Paul Lynch, Shehan Karunatilaka, Damon Galgut, Douglas Stuart, George Saunders, Paul Beatty). The Guardian writes as if #LitFic's spent the decade in some kind of Testosterone Drought.

GOP Rep Scott (GA): “When they made it retroactive. ... there’s actually a list of people that know they will get paid as soon as this thing is signed," including M Blackburn, B Hagerty, J Hawley, L Graham, C Lummis, D Sullivan, T Tuberville, R Johnson, T Cruz, R Scott. For some, it's $500,000 x 6.

I'm so sorry you went through that. Reminding us that a child is a child is a child may help prevent another child from being harmed.

I just read Kim Thúy's "Ru," which won the Governor General's Award. In elegant, powerful writing, Thúy tells the story of a young girl's journey from Saigon to Quebec. Congratulations to her for this new award! #CanLit #LitFic

Non-Mainers are helping Susan Collins win reelection when they call Platner a Nazi without knowing any of the reporting about years of his writing showing he's deeply anti-Nazi, anti-fascist.
