A kindergarten assistant was fired for accurately quoting Kirk *before* his death was announced. "Vaughn, a 37-year-old Christian who has taken missionary trips to Guatemala, said her call for prayer was sincere" (Reuters).

"Open Water," a first novel by Caleb Azumah Nelson, is one of my favorite reads of the year. From Black Cat publishing, it's a short novel, rather than a novella. Good description in the link so you'll see if it's something you'd like to try. #LitFic groveatlantic.com/book/open-wa...

I'm old enough to remember Nixon's secretary Rose Mary Woods demonstrating how she mistakenly erased a critical 18.5 minutes from the secret tapes.

Your solar-powered French-English dictionary is one of my favorite things. As you can see.

Aroostock Dems noting Collins's cozy relationship with the banking industry & her "criticism" of RFK, Jr., for whom she voted. We can't let the D primary take our eyes off the prize: Susan's retirement. #mepolitics

Newly discovered comic stories by Virginia Woolf will be released 7 October. She wrote "The Life of Violet" in 1907 at age 25, 8 years before her 1st novel was published. #LitFic #BookSky

I read literary fiction. It's been a good reading week: Moore, "February"; Richardson, "The End of the Alphabet"; Urquhart, "The Whirlpool"; Barbery, "Gourmet Rhapsody." But like you, I've found there are fewer litfic readers than I once assumed.

Let's be clear. *This* is what Kimmel said about Kirk: he "sent love to the Kirks." His suspension was triggered by comments he made about the *political* reaction, not the shooting, not the victim.

Eventually a suit by a teacher or govt worker fired for online comments about Kirk will hit SCOTUS. There's an almost exact precedent from 1987, Rankin v. McPherson, which ruled in favor of the worker's 1st Amendment right. Will it be upheld by the Roberts Court? supreme.justia.com/cases/federa...

This is what Kimmel said about CK's shooting: he sent his family's love to the Kirk family. In an act of censorship by proxy, the FCC pressured ABC to suspend his show based on Kimmel's comments about the MAGA response, not about the shooting or the victim. Transcript: people.com/what-did-jim...

Reuters reports at least 15 people have been fired for their online posts about Kirk's murder. The success of the Thought Police--and all those who acquiesced to their pressure--presages the chaos that's going to ensue when the Dear Leader dies.

I know healthy people under 65 who've been denied the vax b/c they're not diagnosed with any of the following conditions. Only 1 qualifier is based fully on self report: history of smoking, tho self-reported "lack of physical activity" might be plausible for many. www.pbs.org/newshour/hea...

Here's the list of conditions to qualify for a Covid vaccine if you're under 65. If you're healthy or your illness is not on the list, note that 2 conditions are based on self-reporting: lack of physical activity & history of smoking. www.pbs.org/newshour/hea...

List of conditions that qualify you for a COVID vaccine if you are under 65. Note that "history of smoking" doesn't require a diagnosis, & able-bodied people might still be able to claim "lack of physical activity." 1/2

Just read my 101st book of the year. (I'm retired.) So far, my favorite is the quirkiest: "Green Grass, Running Water" by indigenous Canadian writer Tom King. It's a sly and sophisticated, whip-smart, hoot of a novel with a trickster coyote at its core. #BookSky

If IN wants to save $$, they should abolish their Death Penalty. In neighboring OH, for ex, the Death Penalty is 3x more expensive than Life without Parole with higher legal & housing costs. General population housing is much cheaper than solitary confinement on Death Row. otse.org/wp-content/u...

"Their Eyes Were Watching God" is 5 stars, for sure. I love these 2 photos of Hurston from the same photo shoot, showing her laughing AND looking mean & impressive!

"Things don’t work out quite as hoped" is the publisher's summary of Senna's novel "Colored Television." For me, it also sums up the disconnect bwn the blurbs & the book itself. I might've liked it better if the cover hadn't promised a "laugh-out-loud," "sharp, hilarious page-turner." #LitFic

I'm not surprised the DJT lapel pin is large, tacky, and gold. But I am surprised that it's such a realistic depiction of an overweight, heavily jowled narcissist.
