We don't often see Trumpeter Swans on Lake Superior as they prefer smaller lakes and marshes with dense vegetation. So, it was a treat to see these juveniles during fall migration.

As Earth Day comes to a close, keep in mind that 112 bird species have experienced steep population losses over the last 50 years.

Please do what you can to help. Use native plants in your yard. Turn off outdoor lights at night, use window clings to prevent strikes and keep your cats indoors.

A few more spring migrants: Red-bellied woodpecker, American Tree Sparrow and winter wren.

Spring migration is underway. A few of the birds that just arrived: yellow-rumped warbler, Eastern Phoebe and yellow-shafted Niethern Flickers.

How about these sweet Redpolls and Pine Siskins for a bright spot today?

I was hoping to photograph the eclipse last night, but clouds made that impossible. So, to honor the occasion, I dug up my very first try at photographing a lunar eclipse back in 2014.

With all the chaos happening in America right now, I'm so grateful to still be able to enjoy a sunrise in the morning.

It's not like I'm in denial of what's happening in our country. It's just that I need a little normalcy in my life, too. So here's a picture of Gooseberry Falls for Waterfall Wednesday. Lift each other up today.

The wingspan on the great gray owl is quite impressive.

Is there anything more fun than watching great grays?

I was so excited to see this bobcat. We've been seeing the tracks in the yard for weeks and the occasional picture on the trail camera. What a treat to meet face to face!

We've been experiencing an owl irruption in our area this winter and it's been quite a treat to see so many beautiful great gray and boreal owls.

My first attempt at capturing the Orion Nebula with the Seestar s50. You run the telescope using an app on your phone, and the coolest thing is watching the image build as it takes 10 second exposures and stacks them as you watch. This was a 3-minute capture.

It's always a treat to see a snowy owl, but seeing one perched in the parking lot of a refinery is not really the image you dream of taking.
