I was very pleased when I was visiting New York, and a nice co-worker took me out of the city to some trees (no idea where) and I saw a Chipmunk! it was great, so I'm going to assume New York is the Chipmunk, at least in my mind.

You're counting Ireland as Commonwealth 'cos of the North?
December 2, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Automatic opening, yes that was on the list, and that is what I'm surprised you only have. I didn't realise "Switchblades" were a typical pocket knife in the US - all the north american folk I know just use regular (but locking typically) pocket knives. REI will have loads of UK legal pocket knives

Surprised you own that many knifes that are illegal to own - www.westyorkshire.police.uk/ask-the-poli... - I guess it's actually the locking aspect to your pocket knives which can make their possession in a public place an offence but there are still defences (such as hiking and need prepare food)

People saving a house deposit need even more surety though, as they have an explicit need for cash, but so what either way really. But pointless waste of political time mostly, there's not even an explanation of why it was changed.
November 28, 2025 at 11:26 AM
For me it was unpopular 'cos of the explicit "pensioners are special" part of the change as well as the pointlessness of the whole thing - all the tax reforms you could do, all the change that was promised, and it's that?
November 28, 2025 at 11:17 AM
So Sunak (maybe Johnson, not sure on timings) was the second most economically left-wing government? 'cos that's not credible, perhaps "total tax take" is not a good measure of if something is left or right. Or maybe left/right is just a load of 1950's thinking that needs getting rid of.

How it will impact the OMAZE house people is perhaps the bigger question - will no-one buy their tickets if they have to pay so much extra on the house?

Would it have remained 1.3% if the expected productivity gains from AI had been left out?

The tin version is still available in the UK, but that's a small sized one which is 7$ vs $20 or so for the larger metal one.

Exactly, the parts that are renationalised are the same parts that the conservative government renationalised, the bits that no-one else would bid to run anyway. Like everything in this government, it's do nothing and hope but spin what they are forced to do.

The manifesto promised 1.5 million homes over the life time of their parliament, a promise not a target, they actually need the schemes to achieve that, this is not that at all.

Interesting to know what happened to the 2023 instruction from the government to the Advertising Standards Agency about the word "flushable", I thought they had already "banned" it as they aren't?
November 18, 2025 at 8:12 AM
At the end of the previous governments consultation, they said "The IA notes a joint approach will be taken with the Devolved
Administrations (DAs), with the ban expected to come into place in all nations by spring/summer 2026." so a year later...

It's absolutely pointless anyway, the manifesto commitment was " Labour will not increase taxes on working people, which is why we will not increase National Insurance, the basic, higher, or additional rates of Income Tax, or VAT" - you could possibly fudge the first part with that, but not the rest

You can buy them today, mostly designed for selling beers to crowds, but nothing's going to stop you just filling up your own, A 10l keg suggests maybe share with a friend or two, but I won't judge.

"Ikea Effect", the people will enjoy it more if they mix the sauce and pasta themselves.

Combined with the ID cards at 13, it'll mean the 13year olds who aren't allowed a phone by their parents will be able to get one from the government instead, so that'll be good. Might not be cool to have the Government phone, but better than nothing.
