Mic nerd here (also worked with a guy who was on Regan’s audio team when he was in the navy). For about 60 years, presidents used a pair of Shure SM57s (one live, one backup). Trump changed to a single SM57 with a custom clip. This looks like a straight on view of Trump’s standard single mic setup.

Denver hasn't done so bad for a cow town. Denverinfill hasn't done a multifamily residential project summary since 2018 but most of the under construction and proposed units in this graphic were built - 20,000 some odd housing units within 1.5 miles of downtown.

The pattern of settlement on the plains was based on steam train transportation. With agricultural productivity up 300% over the last 70 years and the invention of trucks, it's no wonder young people leave. There's still money in the farms but they don't need enough workers to support the towns.

Today it looks like Casper, WY is the place you don’t want to be.

I assumed I lived close enough to the ADS-C at Buckley to get fried in a pure counterforce attack but according to NUKEMAP my window might not even get broken, dangit.

I have a history of derailing family and friend’s vacations by making everyone visit civil war sites. Was especially proud of this side trip in upstate NY this summer, though.

Go the other way is crazy too - it’s hard to convince boomers that consumer appliances are basically free now:

Very easy to see on a satellite image which parts of Missouri are the Midwest. I call the Ozarks the South but it’s really its own unique thing. If FDR hadn’t built roads there I think they would still be speaking French in the lead mines.

I don’t think there was really a need for new cars after this myself:

By the time Union Station was redeveloped the thru running tracks had been gone for 20 years. They should not have been removed in the first place, but planners had a very different idea of how Denver's real system would be laid out in the late 80's than they did in the 2010s.

Not a single one of these buildings except the historic station existed in 2000:

Denver accidentally did the opposite, it wasn’t until day 3 of the 2020 protests that they realized they left a giant pile of window smashing rocks downtown and had a poor RTD employee cover them up with dirt in the middle of the protest (this is labeled the “Wu Tang Memorial Gravel Pit” on Google:

Been thinking about this since I grew up in the Rust Belt and spent Christmas in the Youngstown area:
- It's been 40 years since consumer goods manufacturing was no longer viable in the US but there are a lot of other kinds of manufacturing that still occurs in the US and in fact output is very high

Isn’t this the whole game? These people are geographically distributed in a way that makes them enormously politically powerful under our current system, the economy collapsed where they live, and rather than moving they now vote for fascists. Example - Youngstown:

The UFO mythology in American media and culture predates TV and even radio. For instance - from the “Mystery Airship” flap in 1896 we get this editorial from William Randolph Hearst:

Someone pointed out (in r/UFOs of all places) that this may have all started because there was a surveying plane flying over NYC and NJ multiple nights last week.
