Academicking in a state with right angles. At the intersection of Oy and Ope.
The distinction should be made between attitudes, which are learned and often implemented reflexively, and beliefs, which are articulable and persuadable. They overlap and influence each other, but are not the same.

Asana. I can integrate it with my email app (Spark) or just forward emails to turn into todos. iOS app, web app, Windows app. Also, easy sharing and collaboration if needed on a project. The free version has been my go to for 12+ years now.

There is an excellent exhibit on Mesoamerican art at the Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City with reproductions of the Codex and links to the digital version. I was just there last weekend and had the Getty site up to look through!

FFS. He wasn’t remotely qualified for the one university he did run, now they want him to be a super-CFO for five more? Is he going to donate his salary back for this gig too?

Last one I finished in 2025 was Shopkeeping by Peter Miller. First one I finished in 2026 was A Little Daylight Left by @kaysarahsera.bsky.social (finished around 1:30 this morning before turning off the light). Still also reading and next to finish is Archive of Unknown Universes by Rubin Reyes.

Misery and self loathing are the baseline, especially by the end of several rounds of revision. I can always tell when a paper was written with joy, and that’s when I get suspicious.

Our local pub has been hosting a white elephant jolabokaflod. Yesterday was the seventh year. Really loved the local poet who published her most recent collection through a local press and brought a copy. Big flex, then someone else also brought a copy of her book. Good times all around.

That’s my wife’s hometown. We saw that protest when we were in to move some furniture out the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Amazing.

54. Should have had it on during @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social’s talk at KU last night too.

If it keeps raining like this much longer… (harharhar)

But actually, wouldn’t be surprised if some of our airplane manufacturing also went to sub parts—wiring and the like. We’ve also got a big new battery plant going in, and with EV credits spiked, they’ll have extra capacity.

The alarm was at the hospital in Emporia. The university was only involved because their nursing program has a building at the hospital. The false alarm was from a contractor accidentally triggering the pull switch. Whatever has happened elsewhere, this wasn’t part of that pattern.

My go-to for ink is Amodex. Paper towel or wash cloth on the backside of the fabric, a little Amodex on the stain, rub it in gently, repeat until no more ink is coming out, then wash as usual.

I just picked up my first 51 in St Louis last month, and even in that same color. It’s been great so far.

I just bought one of the elites (in black) at the St Louis Pen Show. I think the guy I bought from had some of the florals, if you’d like his contact info.

Also, it sucks that the elected leader of the Jewish state can plausibly be called a war criminal, just as it sucks that the elected leader of my country can plausibly be called a rapist. But alas—if only we were so lucky to live in a time where such allegations were slanderous!

The sculptural pen just above the diamond pen featured two silver lizard airplanes copulating. I did not get a picture of that one, for better or worse.

It could have been worse, tbh. Other things on that table were far more garish.

The $100 I paid for mine (which is now inked and going beautifully) was a steal!

For deals though, I don’t know if I could beat the $10000 pen with 80 natural diamonds embedded in the barrel that was knocked down to $5000 for the show…

Having just bought a 51 at the St Louis Pen Show last weekend, I appreciate you calculating my value proposition! 😁
