Is AI actually replacing programmers?

"[It] produced this just kind of messy blob of code that didn't work and nobody understood it. And the thing I'm working on now is just trying to actually do it kind of the old way."--Amazon software engineer to NPR's Huo Jingnan.

Tech CEOs say the era of 'code by AI' is here. Some software engineers are skeptical
While AI is increasingly used to write code, every line is still reviewed by humans. Some engineers complain about having to clean up AI-generated code.

surprising finding here...wonder how that came about
President Donald Trump's $100,000 H-1B fee and Republican-introduced legislation will make it significantly more difficult and expensive for America’s top research institutions — which already cannot keep up with industry compensation — to continue to attract skilled workers from across the world.
The Most Detailed Maps of H-1B Visa Holders Joining America's Top Research Institutions
A new analysis by The Xylom shows for the first time just how much America’s top research institutions have grown to depend on the specialized knowledge of H-1B skilled workers — and how this…

While Meta took out the parts abt children after Reuters asked about it, it still allows for sensual convos w/ adults...and this other story also by @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social was about how an elderly man died on his way to meet up with a flirty Meta bot
Meta’s AI chatbot guidelines explicitly allowed for children to be engaged in “sensual” conversations and helped users advance racist arguments. And it was all approved by Meta’s chief ethicist. Incredibly damning story by @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social

What is a "government-sanctioned 'truth arbiter'"??
A government-sanctioned "truth arbiter" will soon arrive at CBS. Their role will be to ensure that journalists do not criticize this Administration or express views that conflict with its agenda.

This is a betrayal—not just of journalistic independence, but of the public trust. 🧵
