Sprinkle in a pandemic starving these other indi artists by withholding their tour income and all of a sudden the label has complete control of a saturated industry

All while other label signed artists are making hella money (at the moment) & getting their shit pushed on podcasts/radios/streaming playlists/Friday new release pages

So now they’ve killed the leaders of the movement. Textbook execution (Fred/Malcolm/Martin) & these young up & coming rappers are “seeing” an example made outta Chance on indi downfalls

Then bots (unfamiliar at the time) started running rampant making memes of the album & all of a sudden “The Falloff of Chance The Rapper Needs To Be Studied” narrative is plagued on him

Then you go back & really admit that The Big Day was by no means a terrible album. Podcasts like Joe Budden & Akademiks started making first week/month sales a make a big thing so with all the anticipation/expectations for Chance they ran with a flop narrative

Then thinking how Chance (& Mac Miller & Nip☠️🪦🧐) were the posterchilds/biggest young artist of the indi movement & it had so much momentum..

The weird Drake lawsuits been having me thinking on why so many artists out now are tied to labels when it seemed like for awhile there when hiphop was super up creatively, alotta these rappers were getting their shit independently
