2/2 human psychology — we’re nowhere near that. But since this study targeted a very specific process (moral judgment), the key question becomes whether LLMs can simulate such a narrowly defined domain. And on that front, I think there’s a realistic prospect that they eventually can.

1/2 I agree that past research shows plenty of such cases. My take is that the cumulative knowledge base in psychology is much stronger today than it was a few decades ago, so in some areas more accurate predictions should be possible. Of course, that still doesn’t amount to a universal model of
