It’s a fascinating dichotomy that’s present in all art: the balance of artist intent versus observer interpretation. I love that TTRPGs give us enough room to explore the scale weighted at various points along the beam, giving us many experiences. None of them “better,” just different.

Unbounded games (or open world games if you prefer), meanwhile present a world and rules and then encourage players to run around. This allows them to interpret the themes as they wish, but might mean they deviate heavily through play from the ideas originally built into the game by the designers.
