Currently building my first story one brick (and breakdown) at a time.
I highly recommend checking them out, it's written by @cnholmberg.bsky.social All four books are on kindle unlimited if you have it. They are beautifully written.

This is what I imagine the fortuity box looks like in The Paper Magician.

I'm a plotter. I spend a lot of time trying to make all the pieces fit before I write.

Very suss.

You're a writer Ty, hiatus or not. And you'll get back to it when you're ready. There is no rush.

That was me not too long ago. I kept losing momentum and motivation with what I was working on, so I played with some silly new ideas. Now I’m a month into this one and I can’t stop writing.
Try playing some what if games. Like what if your job was to change the lightbulb in the moon?

Are you struggling with what to write? Or struggling to motivate yourself to write?

Divorced parents when it's my birthday.

That's a great question, I'll be tackling this soon. I'm currently at the stage of blocking out my scenes and working on the flow. Being a portal fantasy I'll need to come up with some interesting flora and fauna.

That should certainly help with any self-doubt. Great stuff Tiff.

You've heard the saying: 'The only way to guarantee failure is to stop trying.'
Writing is a skill, and like any skill, it grows with time and effort.
If writing is your dream, then keep going.
Prove that voice in your head wrong. The one that says you're not good enough.
You are.

I'm not a firstborn so whatever power the toy has, I hope it's mildly inconvenient 😂

Which country do you live in? Are you safe? I can't imagine what that would feel like.

I don't know if you read much fantasy, but the Empire Trilogy by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts is one of my favourite series. IT ties in with Feist's riftwar books very well, but can be read as a standalone series.

Mostly because a lot of authors use them as a crutch and infodump. Prologues are hard. If the prologue isn't delivering on the promises you're going to set for your readers then it's going mislead them. That said, there's no rule against it, just make sure it fits your narrative tone and style.

I'm about six weeks deep in planning, but I'm still so excited by each part.

I think two hours a day should be my realistic target. I'm currently sacrificing sleep to write late at night.

I wish I was so organised 😂

Oh yeah, it's more common than we tend to hear about, especially in sport.

I'm glad you're feeling well enough to return to study, that's a big step. 🙂

Good luck with your first day back. Remember that it's ok to just ease yourself back in.
