I’ve got this character who was meant to have a minor secondary role.
But the deeper I get into planning, the more space she takes up.
I didn’t expect her to be so interesting.
Now she’s quickly becoming my favourite character in the story.

I've started reading @cnholmberg.bsky.social The Paper Magician, and wondering what has taken me so long. It's very good.

It’s hard when you want to write, but everything else comes first: work, family, life.
How do other writers deal with this, when all you want to do is put pen to paper?

Today's question for the #writingcommunity

What is your go to story structure?
Three act? Heroes journey? Save the cat?
Something you made up yourself?
I'm curious what works best for you, and why?

Hitting that dreaded imposter syndrome wall. How do others in the #writingcommunity deal with this?

Today's question for the #writingcommunity,

When it comes to protagonists & antagonists,
do you prefer a clean line between good & evil?
Or do you like exploring the grey are in between?

Today's question for the #writingcommunity

Do you keep your writing simple and clean?

Or do you find yourself spinning longer,
winding sentences that weave layers of
meaning into every twist and turn?

How do you find the right balance for your story?

Today's question for the #writingcommunity is about supporting cast, specifically size. Do you prefer a small or large supporting cast in your writing and why?

While reading John Truby's Anatomy of Story, I read an interesting line about the protagonist & antagonist having the same fundamental goal. My question for #writingcommunity today is, are your protagonist & antagonist competing for the same goal?

Today's question for the #writingcommunity, What comes first for you, characters or plot? Does the plot determine what characters you require? Or do your characters drive the plot?

Question for the writing community. When using age in your novels/stories, do you use the words e.g, twelve-year-old or the numerals e.g, 12-year-old? Does this change if the numerals have a higher or lower value?

I know I don't really have a network on here yet, but I'd love some more book recommendations. Even if you don't have a recommendation, feel free to share the post so more people see it. 🙂

I've finally replaced the Kindle I broke seven years ago, yay! If you've written a novel or just have a book you'd like to recommend, drop it in the comments and tell me a little bit about it. My usual go is fantasy, but I'm open to hear about all kinds of books.

Anyone else hesitant of using the EM dash while writing? I feel like if I use it then people will assume it's ai generated.
