It’s my parents. I’m blessed with a wide circle of friends who spend Black Friday in the woods.

If you suggest boycotting Black Friday people stop wanting to be around you. 😂 But yes, it’s sad how normalized consumption is as a way to define life and identity.

That’s a sad spread. No color, no life, no fun.

In the Friendsgiving potluck we had scratch made gnocchi and lasagna and curried turkey, among other delights.

It’s considered strategic leadership to try to find a way to appease the traitors so that they don’t destroy your institution. The thinking is it’s necessary to stay in existence. But I agree with you, it’s bullshit.

A university president answers to/leads many different stakeholders with varying ideas of what should be done. Faculty often holds less power than the trustees, donors, students, alumni, etc., and what’s good for us isn’t the primary concern.
November 29, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Yes, but I put this issue more on the food system, expectations for over work, and the design of our (car centric) environment than individuals.
November 29, 2025 at 7:39 PM
People are always amazed at how many trips I assume we will walk or bike. 3 miles and under, car isn’t even in the calculation.
November 29, 2025 at 7:38 PM
It depends whose desires we are talking about.

Just read a dystopian love story written in 2010 about the near future. We were at war with Venezuela and our currency was Yuan.
November 29, 2025 at 7:36 PM
Really? I sure hope so. At my private liberal arts school, despite a HUGE endowment, it’s all penny pinching and thinly veiled talk of education as job training.
November 29, 2025 at 6:23 PM
Or the leadership really dgaf about education. It’s just about the money, mission be dammned.
November 29, 2025 at 6:21 PM
It’s also a way for me to commit to a (slightly) slower pace of life. Keeping it at or under 70 to maximize range is also a plus for me, for that same reason.
November 29, 2025 at 6:18 PM
Exactly. We should all be moving a lot more throughout the day—driving or not. This is why the USAians have so many low back problems. Squatting at least once a day is important too!

*cat obviously, but he would be honored to be referred to as a car

I think home charging is really the make or break it factor with EVs. We are having a high voltage plug installed for ours and that too is $$. I still see EVs as an overall benefit, especially when you consider beyond $.
November 29, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Seriously. I do think being in a place where $ is not the primary concern is a place of privilege, but absolutely—we need to consider the whole situation and stop acting like planetary collapse is no big deal.
November 29, 2025 at 2:48 PM
I’m not really finding this to be true so far (3 weeks with my EV). Charging on a long distance drive was definitely more than gas would have been. However, I’m a firm believer that we need to make our decisions on more criteria than just $…mainly how might it help the planet survive?
November 29, 2025 at 2:44 PM
One reason I got an EV is so that I have to stop and move my body more often than an ICE requires. I ruin my body if I sit still for too long, and this prevents that and actually makes long distance drives more doable for me.

Weird, but I don’t know anyone with pics of themselves with anyone accused or convicted of sex crimes. Seems unusual to be surrounded by such people?
November 29, 2025 at 2:23 PM
I think it may be even worse than that.
