I vote Henry, the dad from Dennis the Menace. He's a mask deliberately invented to whitewash the identity of his creator, Hank Ketcham, one of the worst men to ever make comics.

I finally had to pause my nyt subscription. It's just not a valuable resource any more to find out any specifics of what's going on. Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe it.
The federal government is methodically hunting and rooting out LGBTQIA+ people from service (with the help of alt right trolls) and this is the best NYT could muster.
