lol istg I am a changed person now. I feel like I used to do this, then lost my way, and have for decades been reading through somebody else's eyes. It's obvious to me now that meaning occurs in chunks of words, and that reading individual words actually damages comprehension.

Do you have a take on why our city's school have such low numbers? There's the deal where Oregon is a "testing is optional" state, and students most likely to opt out are those with the most attentive families (aware of the hoops)--is that it? What else explains this? Portlanders seem smart to me?
