My favorite place on earth, seen at sunset. And that’s not the Grand Canyon.

Not the DOT kicking off a campaign to get people to be more respectful on flights just DAYS after the “quiet, Piggy!” incident. 💀

#Evening in Canyonlands, 2016. Despite being underexposed and having a little bit of camera shake, I still love this image because it reminds me of my favorite place on earth.

Hey hey #FossilFriday . A beautiful Discoscaphites conradi from the Fox Hills Formation (Upper Cretaceous) of South Dakota. Not pictured: on the opposite side is nice partial Sphenodiscus. Personal collection, my own photo.

Last of this series. The halfway point along #Route66 is Adrian, TX. Most people know about the MidPoint Cafe, but recently I also spotted this decorative armadillo there in its glorious Texas coat.

I don’t often think of using the Polaroid for abstracts or detail shots, but it often works out well for those. These are colorful bricks adorning the side of the Motel Safari on Route 66.

I don’t really have a lot of good options for today’s #BlueSkyArtShow theme of #autumn , but I did find one I took two years ago at Caddo Lake. Also a clear departure from all the film I’ve been shooting recently.

The Blue Swallow may be more famous, but Motel Safari is pretty neat, too.

One thing I love about road trips is that you see all kinds of random things. Never heard of Angel Peak Badlands before and sort of stumbled across it. Really pretty views; I don’t think hiking is allowed down there though. #newmexico #angelpeakbadlands

4/5 “Never Whistle at Night” various Indigenous authors (short story anthology).

Runs a pretty wide gamut and even though there were some misses for me, overall a great book. Some stories were based on folklore, some on Indigenous trauma, some more generally speculative than horror in nature.

3/5 “Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

This book was my gateway to the horror genre. Never one to turn down a gothic story, I knew I had to try it.

Apparently lots of complaints about it being too slow (?!)— this is a GOTHIC novel, not a slasher novel. Gets real fever-dream at the end.

2/5 “Things We Lost in the Fire” by Mariana Enriquez (short story collection).

Macabre and weird in the best way. A lot of these probably qualify as morality tales and run the gamut from haunted house to murder mystery to feminist commentary to ghost story. One of my fave books of all time.

1/5 🧵 Top 4 fave spooky books + honorable mentions.

“The Fisherman” by John Langan.

I loved this one because it’s got a pretty unique premise and delves into the deep desperation of personal loss. SLOW burn. Not for action-lovers.

I rediscovered #Polaroid this year. Pulled my 25 year old One Step out of the closet, discovered it was broken, and immediately replaced it.

I can’t be the only photographer who feels compelled to add a disclaimer to any casual phone snapshot they post. “Don’t judge! It’s not a real photo!”

Anyway, here’s one of those. Accidentally drove through #Albuquerque ‘s awesome balloon festival on the way to Utah a couple weeks ago.

While I’m not afraid to DNF, I recently found out there’s a lot of us who will finish hate-reading a book out of spite instead of ceding it to the DNF pile.

I’m currently doing this with a massively popular Goodreads Choice Award winner. 👀

Thinking of adding a category for hate-read books. Lol.
