Yesterday we talked a little bit about SNAP ending and how everyone who can, should give back to their communities. I'm going to spend a little time today talking about what to give.

Wow, imagine still losing to women in a system that you created…

Women have an evolutionary advantage when it comes to living longer. They outlive men by about five years. This gender gap is true for many mammals, but a new study shows how human males could narrow it.
Why do women live longer than men? A study offers clues to close the gap

Before Trump was ever elected, we knew that:

1) he raped women

2) he bragged about sexually assaulting women

3) he stole millions from disabled veterans and kids with cancer

4) he used racism to keep black tenants from accessing his apartments

…and yet people still voted for him.

Has anyone considered that maybe the “way we’ve always done it” ranching style doesn’t work for the environment? So instead of killing the native species, *maybe* we reevaluate how we’ve been doing things.

One of the goals of controversial wolf hunts in the Western U.S. is to help reduce the burden on ranchers, who lose livestock to wolves every year. A new study finds that those hunts have had a measurable, but small effect on livestock depredations.

So are we at war or what?
In normal times, with any past administration, Russia bombing a US company would be a BIG deal.

1st day of school today and I am so proud to report that these kids are going to save us all. ❤️

We wildly underestimate what kids are capable of. And I can’t wait to see what they do tomorrow.

The National Guard was called in to reduce crime?

But, the President pardoned hundreds of felons when he took office, so is it REALLY about safety?

Release the files.
August 11, 2025 at 10:40 PM
Oh, so he does have the ability to call in the National Guard?

Funny how he couldn’t on January 6th… 🙄

This is what happens when people do not trust their government, and the government doesn’t trust its people.

This erosion of trust has exacerbated the fear of vaccines and public health.

We’ve got a lot of work to do. Common sense gun laws and mental health support are good places to start.
Sending all our best wishes and solidarity to our colleagues at CDC. 💔

It is important at this moment to hold people accountable. The Supreme Court helped do this.

The Court conservatives share responsibility for every shooting in America. They rewrote the Second Amendment in 2008, in Heller v DC.
This was a terrifying two hours.
Shooter dead. Roybal campus - still shelter in place but so the police can make sure each building safe.

We are taking a break from posting to take a breath
But you can count we’ll be back in a few hours. Fuck politicians' thoughts & prayers - let’s talk gun control

if dems want messaging help, stop telling people you're "fighting back." it sounds like you're being mugged. call off the podcaster search, take your ridiculous money pile and try opening some food banks and free clinics. hurricanes are coming and the feds have no plan. looks like an opening to me.

Sometimes the biggest stories are the easiest to tell through the lens of one creature.

This is the story of the Eastern hellbender—a giant salamander at risk of disappearing forever—but also about ecological grief, Donald Trump, and how extinctions happen:

Legend has it this salamander came from hell. We’re about to send it back.

This and a handful of other websites that my students use for class, have been taken down.

I see they were right: An educated, healthy & confident nation is harder to govern.
Dickheads of Gargantuan Ego (DOGE) have now gained access to the IT servers at the NOAA.

They have taken down several department websites, including the website that stores global CO2 data from observations taken in Hawaii.

That data is still accessible here.
