In other news: baked a cake with my new-to-me stand mixer! Yossy Arefi’s vanilla cake with cookie butter frosting, via NYT Cooking. It’s the best cake I’ve made so far, and omg having a stand mixer makes all the difference w/ frosting.

Today I got to hold a baby peregrine falcon at work! My office has a nest as part of a Department of Conservation project, we have three babies that got banded today!

SCOTUS is getting a facelift. Fun fact for the KC peeps: the same sculptor of the west pediment (the triangle at the top) sculpted the figures at the top of the Liberty Memorial in KC.

I first saw the U.S. Capitol Building IRL when I was 19 years old, in 2007. Seeing it down Maryland Ave. genuinely stopped me in my tracks and moved me. Still stunning, even though I have a lot more complicated thoughts about America these days.

Off to DC! Excited to use this again, I have carried it with me since I lived in DC for a semester in college. I try to always carry a balance so I’m ready for the next trip, the last trip was 8 years ago. Too long.
