The whole REASON for protection of vulnerability is so that a person may do the hard work of becoming who they may become in this world, while accompanied.
Ideally each person in the relationship is supported in the growth which gets uncomfortable.

Going to a 2nd friend/therapist for help thinking through that commitment is entering into yet another magic circle where vulnerabilities are protected.
