It has always, and always will, take effort and energy to have faith in humanity. Some do the work, others do not. Also, fwiw, AI does *not* do the work.

At this point it's probably obvious to state that conferences cannot do the same things they used to. I have grown weary of loads of solo keynotes with no conversations. I crave Q&As, robust panels, wicked awesome moderators, and breakout rooms (hybrid to be assumed).

@monaeltahawy.bsky.social is the voice of reason lately, er... evermore!
This is your regular reminder: patriarchy is not men. Patriarchy is a system of oppressions that privileges male dominance and some women benefit from it.

Feminism is not women or anything a woman does just because she's a woman. Feminism is the destruction of patriarchy.

Feminism is liberation.

Stating the obvious here: these challenges are the ones where we *show* our ethical lines. We show our lines through our actions. If we don't stand up, we passively cede ethical ground. Pull up yer socks!

It scrambles my mind that a country would buy F-35s with software they DO NOT OWN. It's bad enough if you buy a song on Apple and don't own it, but a jet?! This is a mess. You don't own the software=you don't own the jet: www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/art...

I'm amazed when people who'd never publicly admit to, say, being an alcoholic casually remark, "Yeah, I'm a really competitive person" - apparently oblivious to the serious psychological dysfunction (and moral defect) that they're revealing.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how willing people are to acquiesce to their oppression. Like if you're censoring yourself in anticipation of censoring then you just did their work for them. Stop it. Especially if you can afford to. Each time we do that we build their castle for them.
