UMAPs are useful for dataviz! The problem is that many people (over)interpret due to limited understanding what UMAP is/does.

And yes, Bernhard has retired! There was actually a symposium a few months ago…

The bot doesn't know what Watson & Crick mean by "suggests", because the entire concept of formulating a hypothesis and doing any sort of thinking is not something a LLM can relate to.

To me, the project really showcases what can be done when we dare to ask the big questions & develop the tools to answer these in collaborative efforts. The work marks a new research line in the lab & the start of much more to come! 🥳🥂

For now, we hope you enjoy the read!

Finally, this project would not have been possible without all the support from many members of the Veenvliet & Campàs Lab, and Heidi & @ellensletten.bsky.social, who developed new surfactants to enable force measurements in gastruloids

Being in the same building sparked this dream collaboration. Spearheaded by our joint PhD student Marc @mtrani.bsky.social. I also want to highlight the critical input from @cryaaa.bsky.social, who developed the framework to quantify 3D morphodynamics & much more (SpinePy: doi.org/10.1101/2025...)
