I haven't watched this video yet, but I'm hoping the conclusion of it is that your character dying can actually be really fun.

I am one of those weirdos who see New Sun as explicitly science fiction. I wouldn't die on a hill for that assertion, but I'd stubbornly and ignorantly refute anyone saying otherwise. Long Sun is even MOR scifi! But Short Sun? Oh boy, my arguments crumble like, um, something easily crumble-able?

Nice. So many people stop after New Sun, but there's so much more great stuff!

Have you gone on to read any of the other 'solar cycle' books?

The Hero's Journey Companion has a Rover class (and there is another supplement for other animals I believe), but it isn't strictly B/X. It's kind of its own thing but I bet a snap to convert.

Fans of the Book of the New Sun might want to play a *former* torturer? I think there was a Torture profession in the original Warhammer. But yeah it's a good question.

It's kind of the "it" thing at the moment, but deservedly so. It has a lot of creative people making stuff for it.

OSE has a magazine type supplement called Carcass Crawler that has optional races and classes and other player facing stuff. There's also a free Necromancer supplement available and more stuff in the pipeline. There's also a bunch of 3rd party OSE classes available.

I think the best hexcrawl systems aren't in any of the rulebooks, but are outside sources, like Into the Wyrd & Wild by Wet Ink Games and Into the Wild Omnibus by Third Kingdom Games. Third Kingdom Games has a bunch of hexcrawl stuff.

For Gold & Glory is a 2e retro clone, but I don't think it has descending AC or meaningful hex/dungeon creation.

Now, there's also Dolmenwood which is based on OSE, has race/class as default and an excellent hexcrawl system.

Advanced Fantasy Old School Essentials. It has rules for both race as class AND class/race and has both ascending/descending AC systems.

Suggestion for what?

Could you please point out to me where I can find this short story ?

I read this waaaaay back in 93 or 94, one of the first books I read that wasn't a school assignment, before I knew I loved reading. An incredibly important book in my life. I'm going to have to find a copy now.

Great map. What book is that, if you don't mind?

When Cisco comes up in online conversation, it's usually his other works getting recommended, but this one is probably his most accessible for newcomers. Probably his most straight forward narrative, with an ending that still runs through my brain 15 years later.
