This look is how I feel when I drive past long lines of motorists waiting in idled cars for several minutes at drive-thru lanes to get their overpriced warm beverage in the cold weather.

(This was Karen’s reaction watching people wait to get inside the world’s largest Starbucks in Chicago)

She’s packing up her belongings now and will soon be leaving me again. It’s always a bad breakup with this mistress. At 1:19 p.m., she will be departing, I’m told.
We had a great time together this year and thanks for letting me have my way with you each day. See you in mid-June.

At what age should children be warned about our country’s opioid epidemic? Should it be done in schools? Would it help curb the most prevalent and dangerous drug epidemic in U.S. history?
This book has answers.

I can’t tell you how many interviews I’ve done alongside Orville, day or night, either on the phone or in person. He’s the perfect sidekick, never interrupting the conversation and always smiling, especially during Popcorn Fest weekend.

Pickleball looks like an easy sport to play for geezers like me whose range isn’t what it used to be. But as I learned on this hot, sweaty court,if you compete against younger players it’s a helluva workout.
Thanks to my niece, her husband and my son for making me hustle until exhaustion.

My favorite quote of the day comes from this guy, Chris, who used to play a lot of competitive sports in his younger years, before two knee replacement surgeries: “Now, I get sore just driving there.”

“Just follow my lead, newspaper boy. It’ll be fun,” she told me.
I’ve been following her lead now for 15 years. So many stories, so many headlines. So much fun.

The Lake County Fair always makes a memorable date night for us. And hopefully for thousands of other Region residents.

Thousands of Hoosiers will soon be posing for photo ops in front of the downstate “Speedwqy Slammer,” as if they’re at Disney World. It’s already happening at “Alligator Alcatraz” in Florida.

You know, just as Jesus would do with His followers.

My next column at NWI.com will share my thoughts.

This day has been PERFECT for sleeping in with your favorite person in life — bedroom windows open, serenaded by raindrops dancing on the pavement and thunderstorms rumbling in the distance.

Our condolences for all the outdoor events taking place today, including fairs, festivals, weddings, etc.

Remember when we were young and fearless gods during the summers of our youth, defying deadly chemicals, ignoring silly safety precautions, and screaming at the top of our lungs through the fog of adolescence.
To honor our past, let’s spray Raid in our face and laugh at fate.

If you’re losing faith in humanity, go to Aldi and wait for someone to offer you a free cart or a quarter. With “Aldi-etiquette,” no one ever asks for your political stances, religious beliefs or opinions on immigration detention centers.

Making America Safe Again — from a Japanese concentration camp in 1945 to “Alligator Alcatraz,” the migrant detention facility in 2025.

My Sunday night ritual: Going through reader mail, voice mails, emails and messages - always appreciative of readers taking the time to share their feedback, thoughts, praise or anger.
Or, in this case, a handwritten card with bonus inserts. #readers #feedback #gratitude

Whatever this Ohio State fan prayed to Touchdown Jesus on Saturday before last night’s game, it worked. What an exciting game, illustrating the best of college football, though Notre Dame fans left the stadium stunned. #collegefootball

My most productive time of day is now, between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., when my devices aren’t bombarded with alerts & messages. And when my life allows me a reprieve from all the noise and obligations.
I enjoy writing when most everyone else is sleeping, during a time period that’s as quiet as a secret.
