Yes, I just missed the atmospheric river. Timing worked out great!

It was a great trip. I had long days, but I really enjoyed my time out there. #GenHour

Thank you! I walked the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time! It was lovely.

I will miss the warm weather in California.

Precisely! It is really special when you connect with relatives who are interested in family history. And it's rare that I find someone like that who is close to my age, 😊.

She is going to help build out more of her family on my Ancestry tree, which is really nice!

She is going to ask one of her brothers if he can take a Y-DNA test. I am keeping my fingers crossed that one of them agrees! She warned me they aren't interested in genealogy at all, so it may be an uphill battle.

100% that patience is required for Y-DNA.

Have you checked out my Y-DNA series? I have a few videos with tips for how to further the research into Y-DNA lineages. You should look for a second tester for target testing.

Thank you! It would be immensely valuable to my research if she agrees to help get one of her brothers to test. #GenHour

Thank you! Convincing others to take a DNA test is by far the HARDEST part of my Y-DNA research. But it can be immensely rewarding when people agree to test. I would not have been able to make my Y-DNA video series without the willingness of others to test.

I really hope all goes well and she agrees to ask one of her brothers to take a Y-DNA test. I've encountered a lot of disappointment in the past, so I'll try and keep my expectations low.

Wish me luck!

This is my best opportunity in years to test this lineage and I plan to make the most of it. I'll be sharing with her exciting genealogy research about her family stretching back 500 years.

And at the end I will explain the importance of furthering the research with Y-DNA testing.

In just a few days I will be speaking with a woman in France who is a distant relative. She is my 8th cousin, 2x removed.

But her paternal line is of immense interest to me (and features in my Y-DNA series). My hope is to have her ask one of her brothers to take a Y-DNA test.

I am now nearing the end of my Y-DNA series. I've already published 15 videos and I have 1 or 2 more that I hope to release in the future.

Now comes the hard(er) part. Leveraging the video series to help convince others to take a Y-DNA test. I'll have my first test this weekend.

Autosomal DNA can be quite helpful.

It's always best to test the oldest living generation for autosomal DNA. So if you have older living ancestors along your paternal line, try and have them get tested.

100%. It is highly dependent on the availability of records in the towns that your ancestors lived.

My ancestry runs the full spectrum from amazing genealogical records (Metz, France) to sparse (Iasi, Romania)

That's good that you have a lead on a town! Hungary is one of those areas where I have a little less experience. I do have family from Slovakia where the 19th century records are also in Hungarian.

One of the biggest challenges in #genealogy research is finding towns of origin in Europe prior to coming to America. It can take a lot of work.

Have you or other family members taken an autosomal DNA test? That could potentially also be of help.
