Rock and Roll was originally performed exclusively by black singers and musicians. Gradually more and more white people began playing Rock and Roll until white performers playing rock music reached critical mass and everyone started calling rock and roll by black artists “soul” or “R&B”.

This is because I called you Johnny D, right?

I understand.

There are cards that force your opponent to move cards directly from their deck to the graveyard and Johnny D here stacks his deck with these cards?

“You know what must be happening’ right now, man? Charlie Kirk’s up in heaven. And he’s up there with Jesus. And fuckin’ Queen. And they’re fuckin’ rockin’ out!”

I don’t play MTG but I see you regularly posting about milling opponents’ decks and I’m wondering what, in the parlance of MTG, it means to mill an opponent’s deck?

Like, as a rule of thumb, shouldn’t you not name your stuff after the bad guy?

Because even if they don’t abolish ICE (and honestly, without veto-proof majorities, that’s not going to happen anyway), Democratic majorities are still going to do more to hold the administration accountable than Republican majorities. 3/3
December 27, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Actually abolishing ICE might not be popular in your state or district despite recent shenanigans. If, ultimately, you don’t have Democratic nominees who want to abolish ICE, you’ll have to ask if they’re still worth voting for and giving the democrats a chance at majorities. 2/3

Hi Effing Dreamy. Here’s the thing, between now and November you’ll have a congressional primary to vote in and possibly, depending on your state, a senate primary. That’s where you need to identify a candidate or candidates who supports your goals. But those people might not win the primary. 1/3

Re-listening to FoC episodes is a great idea! I just finished Achaemenid Persia and am bummed I don’t have anymore to listen on my frequent 3-hour drives.

I think that’s right. Pedophile suggests a predilection, like Jeffrey Epstein seems to have had. Only some of the people Trump raped, molested or otherwise sexually abused were minors. So, more of an equal-opportunity rapist. But a child rapist nonetheless.

This is real? These people are terrible human beings.
December 20, 2025 at 1:48 AM
He does the same thing that I do at a party but I’m not, like, the President of the United States. It doesn’t say anything good that, in a room full of people standing around talking, nobody is talking to him.

Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, Linda McMahon, this guy, yep totally tracks.

You can’t buy drugs in Tokyo?

I used to go to baseball games fairly regularly and when I do I always loved it when games went into extra innings. If you’re a baseball fan, why wouldn’t you want more baseball?!

It’s a definition of “nation” that nobody uses anymore and applies to almost none of the existing states on the modern globe.
December 9, 2025 at 9:01 PM
You misunderstand. It’s one step closer, but a shocking number of steps remain.
December 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM
How do you shovel before you went out there? Roomba shovel?
December 9, 2025 at 2:55 PM
Sierra Club is. But all Yglesias is saying is that the groups follow degrowth, not that they formally support degrowth. But by pushing degrowth into the conversation with Democrat leadership they give the right another far left idea, unpopular with mainstream voters, tar all democrats with.
December 6, 2025 at 5:29 AM
Pretty sure he’s talking about activist organizations. Not, like, you know, car companies.
December 6, 2025 at 3:26 AM
I have think he means, like, Sierra Club, the Environmental Defense Fund, the National Reaources Defense Council, etc.
December 6, 2025 at 3:25 AM
I mean, if the president really did only sleep 3 hours a day that might explain a few things.

But then we’ve seen that he sleep through many of his meetings so…
