(7/8) There is 60 years of scholarship on the Cold War that we should be examing as we start to consider AGI as an advancement to be protected or controlled. Far more so than nuclear arms, any nation-state/corp that will be able to put for the money and resources will be able to pace the leader.

(6/8) Embargoes, sanctions, etc aren’t going to do anything but slow the rate at which other nation-states match whatever comes out of Silicon Valley/DARPA/etc. (assuming the USA ends up being the first to AGI and associated/subsequent advancements).

(3/8) We need to be thinking about AGI like the A-bomb, but not in the panic way we’re currently thinking about it. Long term is not about the race to beat other nation-states/corp to real AGI, we might win that, but rather what an AGI world looks like long-term.

Pretty much checks out with my experience. We did do duck and cover when I was in elementary school, but I imagine it with my 1st grade teacher having a cigarette hanging from her lip just kinda mumbling the instructions when the drill alarm went off.

I was told for years that these things were features of the VERY illegal Obama administration (FEMA camps, declare martial law to end freedumb, deport R's, etc).
