After further searching I nearly got there with:

Which does the overlay, and shows/hides it with the `



BUT... then I got the same bad news as the quick toggle.

My take so far is that it looks fantastic and does what I expect it to. Although the one feature I love about iTerm2 I can't figure out if Ghostty does it is the overlay. Which I have set to the tick (`) to open close.
