A couple of friends and I bought a thing today.
After further searching I nearly got there with:
keybind = global:grave_accent=toggle_visibility
macos-non-native-fullscreen = true
Which does the overlay, and shows/hides it with the `
BUT... then I got the same bad news as the quick toggle.
