Well when some peoples property taxes are frozen artificially low, if spending isn't reduced proportionally, other people will have to pick up the slack with the taxes they pay, either property tax or sales tax or what have you.

That's why I think renaming the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America was a masterstroke, even though it's so dumb in its face. It screams "see, I can just DO THINGS!"

I think you are describing what is known as a "Veblen good": a luxury good for which the demand increases as the price increases, in apparent contradiction of the law of demand.

Being friends with other countries sounds great! But friendship is a two-way street. Are they doing good things for us and our allies? Just capitulating and getting nothing in return is weakness or treasonous.
