Yes definitely. Though the hope and expectation is that, in general, anything that would have been published by MQR will be published by this new journal.

I was late to Twitter but I appreciated some actual intellectual engagement during pandemic. I never had a blog myself but I read a lot of them when they were the thing. I’m not doing much on here in term of my own contributions, but I share your question.

In the 1969 Hymnal, there is a note of explanation linking creeds and hymns as two ways of communally affirming the essentials of the faith.

Always interested to read a reading of this apology, or any other one…

I heard a podcast episode about this history and book and so I knew the basic story but the telling was very compelling. Lots of twists and turns.

I don't know if it's my favourite, but David Kelsey's book Imagining Redemption is very accessible and thought-provoking (and also short).

But I agree that there has not been a reckoning with what the “international” mandate of these organizations mean in the current context. I’m not going to AAR this year but I do hope to go again at some point.

I did contact the AAR executive director about this back when CAUT issued their travel advisory. They responded to my email right away, recognizing the issue—they knew of advisory— and pointing to virtual options.

My only encounter with him was his very eloquent and moving sermon at George Vandervelde’s funeral. Those two had an agreement that whoever outlived the other would preach at their funeral. I don’t really recall what he said, but your tribute rings true based on my memory of that day.
