Allah Las self titled, they’re kind of a psychedelic pop that plays with some 60s riffs, a good listen. #5debutalbums1014

The Books co-founder Nick Zammuto, self titled solo debut. Frenetic and weird, with some pretty decent grooves.

My Jambi chest is almost complete!

Native America’s Grown Up Wrong. This maybe a sneaky contender for me. Scratch’s a lot of the itches, and quantitatively has a lot listenable tracks. And some through back 60’s riffs #5debutalbums1014

Alex G’s Indy debut Race. It really feels like a basement pro tools production, doesn’t quite have the polish of his later albums but there’s a youthful sincerity to the song craft. Crab is a wonderful track! #5debutalbums1014

Some chill hip hop mix’s by the Brock Berrigan. #5debutalbums1014

Jangling guitars and a almost comedic/ loungie voice. Not a contender but not bad stuff here with lots of room for Mac to grow. #5debutalbums1014

The preoccupations formerly known as Viet Cong (until they were booed and rightfully harassed until they changed their name) their debut album Cassette has some
Good stuff . Dark entrys is the stand out for me as it’s more where their sound was going. #5debutalbums1014

Bad Bad Not Good, would be in a top 5 all time of Canadian Bands, this self titled debut of jazz long plays has got some juice but not close to hits of IV or Sour Soul. Still worth a listen #5debutalbums1014

I don’t think Lucius ever really returned to this form. A excellent debut, with their signature harmonies great song writing. #5debutalbums1014

Loved this album when it came out. Sloppy low fi vocals, hard driving percussion. Bass Drum of Death debut GB city, #5debutalbums1014

Paul Saulnier brought shredding back in absolute epic fashion, easily the most daring and loudest guitarist of the era. And the frenetic driving pace of the album pressed by drummer Ben Nelson holds all of it together.
More Can Con from PS I LOVE YOU #5debutalbums1014

YAMANTAKA//SONIC TITAN’s debut YT//ST. Plays like a concept album, a soundtrack for a sci fi tragedy. Cinematic and industrial with sweet harmonies. And more CanCon. #5debutalbums1014

This is great album and my first Can Con pick for this half decade. Canadian Musical royalty Molly Rankin is a gem. Maybe too early to pick as a top 5 but surely in contention. #5debutalbums1014

Inspectah deck + L7 and Esoteric = Czarface, Czarfaces debut packs a lot of punch and brings that old school east coast hip hop. #5debutalbums1014

This is a bit of cheat but it’s
a fun remix album taking old
Soul and R&B hits from the 60’s and 70’s and converting them into BPM. The Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, and Sly tracks are my favourites. #5debutalbums1014

Hospitality self titled this is a joyful album. Beaming bright vocals and Indy sentimentality. It’s been awhile and each time I listen to it I like more of it. #5debutalbums1014

Is this the Hip Hop pick for this half decade? Joey Bada$$’s 1999. #5debutalbums1014

This maybe John R. Miller’s best work some really great throwback country lyrics, stripped back delivery. #5debutalbums1014
October 27, 2025 at 12:44 PM
Lost Dog Street Band debut Sick Pup. Has an almost Pogues in Nashville vibe. Loneliness Makes Me Happy and 404 are the stand outs. #5debutalbums1014

Sam Doores, Riley Downing and the Tumbleweeds. The two name sakes go on to form The Deslondes. This is such a great celebration of rootsie Americana. Both guys have great voices and write great songs. Depression Blues and This Morning I was Born Again are my stand outs. #5debutalbums1014
