I was reading about Lukas Kendall's work on the 1993 4-CD Star Wars soundtrack and did a double-take at Ford Thaxton's name. I knew Ford only as a supreme prat who trolled JMS on rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5 and led to the creation of the moderated group. Apparently he sequenced the Star Wars Anthology!
I think our biggest blunder was in restoring the opening track of The Empire Strikes Back with the unused music for the Rebel base, we had forgot to put the "This Is Not a Cave" music (formerly heard via a segue in that track) back in anywhere else. So it was left off. That was embarrassing. This project was produced by Nick Redman, and we were very close at the time...but it was a difficult relationship. Nick hired Ford Thaxton to do the sequencing— because Ford already had the materials-and Nick told me, point blank, that if I tried to stick my nose into Ford's work, he would fire me. I was like, gulp.

He was even more influenced by Arthur Lipsett, a documentary editor who made avant-garde collage films on the side (Very Nice, Very Nice, 1961). Lucas, whose talent for editing was already apparent (he had immediately responded to the upright Moviola's resemblance to a car, with its pedals and hand brake), decided to model his career after Lipsett's. Lipsett's de-tethering of sound and image would profoundly influence Lucas's work with sound editor Murch on his first feature, THX 1138 (1971). Lucas would repay the influence by inserting subliminal references to Lipsett's short 21-87 into several of his films: THX is set in the year 2187, and in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), Leia is imprisoned in cell 21-87. "[My] films are not meant to be explained, analyzed, or under-stood. They are more experiential, more like listening to music." Those words could have come from the mouth of George Lucas, but infact, the quote is attributed to Jordan Belson, whose short, non-narrative, often cosmological film experiments were a major influence on Lucas, not least in his visual approach to Star Wars.

George Lucas on "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Whatever you think of that movie, this is the only attitude any Star Wars creator should have.
It's just as great? It's just as great! But if you're a disgruntled fan who's already written the story and you find it doesn't follow your script, then it's gonna be terrible. We did it primarily because we just wanted to have fun.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the wedding celebration for two splendid young people today, and got to witness and participate in their family’s broom ceremony, in which the newlyweds jump over a 180-year-old broom tied with a ribbon for every family wedding going back to the mid-19th century.
