I really miss Travis. That is all.

Every single staff member at the vet’s office was amazing, and *everyone* came into the room to say goodbye to him. He was so very loved, and so many people cared about him. Most of all, me.

I also know I gave him a great life, and I truly will only have good and happy memories. He never did anything wrong, except the first week he came to live with me. And those wrongs are hilarious now. But all of this doesn’t make it easier.

My heart is broken💔. We said goodbye to Travis on Monday.
I’m so sad, even though I had been preparing for a while and it was the best choice for him. There was no questioning or second-guessing – it was time. I’m glad we didn’t do it sooner OR later. That sense of comfort is all I can ask for.

“Do things that bring you joy,” they said. So I made rye bread.

I will always find this hilarious.

Spent time here again today. So powerful and moving. I’ve been coming here since May, 1995 – before this was built. In May, 1995, there was only rubble and the memorial fence surrounding the destruction.

I come here at least once a year. This and the adjacent museum are well worth your time.

Meanwhile, they’re definitely on top of current culture!

Post you from a different era.

In my “Customer service, how can I help you?” era.

Today is one of my favorite days - Travis’ Gotcha Day! I rescued him in 2013, and he’s been a nearly constant companion and the most loyal dog I’ve ever had. Good boy!

Results of our 2016 pecan taste test: #1 Pawnee, #2 Kanza, #3 Elliott, #4 Sprouts Bulk Bin. This year is supposedly a good year for pecans here, so we'll try again with more varieties!

Yesterday we took my dad to Medicine Park to have lunch with some of his high school friends. The weather was beautiful; the town remains an oddity. It’s a different kind of oddity each time I visit.

The beginnings of green tomato chutney. I think this batch is gonna be good.

Exciting peppers! Lemon starrburst, pink tiger x reaper, white lightning, biquinho black, jalapeño, Thor’s hammer peach, red bubblegum. Some of the red bubblegum are sorted incorrectly. We’ve already tried most of these. Very fun (and spicy)!

Wish I could stay here forever.

This sweet boy is recovering nicely after a dental cleaning today - at nearly 12 years old, probably his last. Even better - no extractions!

Travis is 11+ yrs old. I've always wondered what mutt-mix he is, but I haven't been willing to pay for a doggie DNA test – mostly, because I think his dominant breed isn't AKC recognized (English Shepherd). But I got a free/gift certificate test, so I sent his spit in, and I CANNOT WAIT TO FIND OUT!

I got ridiculously excited when I saw that my local grocery store was selling watermelon. Friends, I am here to tell you - it is not yet watermelon season. Learn from my mistake. This watermelon literally pales in comparison to in-season watermelon.

It’s the best day of the year! It’s Travis’ “Gotcha Day!” I rescued this sweet guy ten years ago, and he continues to be the smartest, most loyal, and most lovable pal ever. He’s so easygoing, and he has my heart forever.
