Librarian. Possibly retired, but open to the right opportunity. Former Director of Open Initiatives & Scholarly Communication at University of Oklahoma. Ex-chef, ex-marketing director, cookbook collector, partner to Tim, and pal to Travis.
I’m glad Liz Krieger recognized this and wrote about it. Missing our family trip to Mexico because I had to sit on a manslaughter trial was the least of my issues (this was in 2008. I’m ok now). Gift article.

Fobazi has given so much to our profession and has fearlessly spoken truth to power on a variety of critically important issues that impact the well-being of library workers. Please contribute if you can and think healing thoughts for her.
Fobazi is currently in the ICU and could use your support. Apologies to those I haven’t been able to reach out to yet. You can message me for more info and I will be posting updates to GoFundMe. Please share, send healing thoughts, prayers, etc. ❤️ -Elena

Does incense go bad? Because I burned some piñon incense yesterday, which I used to love. But the house just smells like smoke now. When I’m in the house I get a headache and a dry cough. The incense is at least three years old, probably older. Thoughts?

I really miss Travis. That is all.

I haven’t particularly followed schol comm conversations, issues, ideas, or articles since retiring. This article definitely caught my attention though. I found it engaging and notable. Congratulations to the authors!

I watched this presentation about online disinformation by @katestarbird.bsky.social based on a recommendation. Despite some audio issues, I greatly enjoyed it and will be thinking about it for quite awhile. So I’m passing along the recommendation so that you can watch it too.

I picked up Travis’ ashes on Tuesday, and I’m still really sad. On the flip side, we sent all our rugs out to be professionally cleaned, and we got them back today. The house still feels painfully empty, but at least it doesn’t echo anymore.

Much to my surprise, Travis' original adoption page from 2013 is still published. As you can see, I changed his name from Bear to Travis:

My heart is broken💔. We said goodbye to Travis on Monday.
I’m so sad, even though I had been preparing for a while and it was the best choice for him. There was no questioning or second-guessing – it was time. I’m glad we didn’t do it sooner OR later. That sense of comfort is all I can ask for.

Last week I attended a lecture entitled “Understanding Dictatorships.” The presenter discussed foreign dictators exclusively (until Q&A at the end), but boy howdy was it relevant to this here U. S. of A.

Hey, did you know that if you use a public library computer, the moment you sign out everything is wiped? And if you use a guest pass, they can't track anything to your account, not that a library would share patron info anyway.
Note that anyone can email the snitch line, DEIAtruth@opm.gov. So if you’ve got any, uh, thoughts or information you’d like to share about this initiative, fire off that email today!

My favorite - and only - aunt died this afternoon. I am so sad, but I also have such strong, heartfelt memories of her.

Also, my cousin (actually, my mom’s cousin) and her husband who live two doors down are moving to Chicago next week.

I’m feeling so much sadness and loss.

@bibliorogue.bsky.social Just read about your retirement in the latest iStamp email. Congratulations! Hope you love it as much as I do. Still wish you hadn’t been on sabbatical back when I was in the MLIS program. Would have loved learning about schol comm from you. Enjoy your time! 🍾

For 2025 I made a “to read” list/folder using my library’s app. I’ve been reading more books each year, but my 2025 list - at 134 books - is probably too ambitious.

Spent time here again today. So powerful and moving. I’ve been coming here since May, 1995 – before this was built. In May, 1995, there was only rubble and the memorial fence surrounding the destruction.

I come here at least once a year. This and the adjacent museum are well worth your time.
