Right. Like why even negotiate the CR? If we’re not using this time to work on the actual appropriations, then what are we even doing? Just feeding the authoritarian fever dreams of the administration that preferrs Congress remain shuttered?

If the rumor is wrong, great. But expressing negative reaction to that possible outcome, even if it doesn’t materialize, is good and emboldens the bargaining position.
