As a parent, I get it. But Dems can’t run around for a decade screaming ‘existential threat to democracy and the rule of law’ and then thumb our noses at the rule of law. This was a decision by a dad, not a commander in chief. Dems need to own this and stop making excuses.
"Biden made the correct choice to protect his son against the powerful unfettered vindictiveness that is to come in a few short weeks. Let’s hope he uses what’s left of his waning days in office to stave off more of the inevitably impending horrors." ICYMI @kimwehle.bsky.social:
In Defense of the Hunter Biden Pardon
This was a tough call—but consider what Trump’s weaponized Justice Department would have done to Biden’s son.

Sounds familiar.
“GOP lawmakers have also introduced a measure to raise the threshold for amending the state constitution through voter initiatives, which could make it harder to pass similar measures in the future.”

FOIA advocates are always watching. It’s kind of our thing.
It's possible. One would hope they learned their lesson given the near-universal opposition to their attempt to gut FOIA in September 2023, but a regular session's a lot busier than a special session, making it tougher to focus opposition. FOIA advocates need to stay alert.

Don’t mind me. I’m just over here mourning the rule of law with my morning coffee.

@knetterstrom.bsky.social how do we break down the numbers on the 49% of adults that did not vote? How many can’t because of a felony conviction? How many voted in a previous election? How many were purged? Presented to vote but were given a provisional ballot? Never received an absentee?
NEW BLOG POST: Although more Arkansans voted on constitutional amendments than they did in the 2022 midterms, just under half the state's adult population cast a vote.

A lot of folks are giving up in advance. Capitulating before a single skirmish.

Well, not this old warrior. I’ve seen much worse from the U.S. government in my day. I’m concerned for our country, but not a bit scared of these miscreants. I’m ready to do my part.

This tracks here in Arkansas as well. Despite legislative efforts to put election administration in political party control, our Courts are still listening to voters. Not so much special interest groups. But they listened to the voters in West Memphis this cycle.
"But, not all is lost. Courts are playing a major role in protecting voters. Despite concerted Republican efforts to attack voter registration and election rules, pro-voting groups won nearly three times as many lawsuits during the 2023-2024 cycle." www.democracydocket.com/analysis/how...
