It’s mutable and created in real time, while most games and other media are fixed and created before consumption.

The rule set is the basis for the structure but it’s not the structure

After more discussion with my gaming group, I think the core of any activity that we do that’s “unnecessary” for mere survival, like a game, is enjoyment and self-expression. That’s not specific to TTRPGs tho

If I think of another medium like a musical, people come for the story but the core is the music, which has many layers to it that work together to allow the story to be told
