Romance reader. Recovering romance reviewer. Librarian.
My dad and I used to dance to I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash when I was young. It was our song. We danced to it when I got married, the Jimmy Cliff version. With Jimmy Cliff's passing, I am listening to his version today and thinking of my dad (who passed almost 10 months ago). Grief is weird.

The library has one of the 831 ebooks. I have to know. And I'm not paying $9.99 for a roughly 200p book by an new-to-me author. I do have lots of thoughts on this whole thing. I did read the article. I have seen the books around and admittedly assumed that the book covers had to be temporary ones.

I very sadly cannot get into The Librarians by Sherry Thomas. I will probably try again.

I am heading to Florida tomorrow and I am in the most important part of my pre-trip activities: loading up my ereader with ALL THE ROMANCE NOVELS.

In keeping with my weird serial killer romance obsession (which I guess I love bc I am feeling very stabby of late???), I finished Brynne Weaver's Scythe and Sparrow. I am waiting for my hold on bk 3 in the trilogy (Leather and Lark) to come in to the library. #Romancelandia

My Mom stayed w/ my husband & I this summer. She didn't want to be alone up here after my Dad died in January. It was wonderful to have her here. She has returned home & I miss her. Often we'd be sitting in our respective chairs in my living room reading on our kindles not talking.

The Ben and Judd story in Nalini Singh's newsletter is making me need to re-read Caressed by Ice. So many happy sighs.

Okay. I have downloaded the Boundless ebook app onto my Boxx and my Kindle Fire. The Boston Public Library is discontinuing Hoopla and is implementing Boundless which is by Baker & Taylor (which librarians will know). Let's see how this works.

When my latest ebook hold came in at the library, I mistakenly chose the epub edition that has to be read in Adobe Digital Editions. I have never attempted to read a book in this. I find it unreadable. UGH!

I read Accomplice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer which also has a bit of an ending. The series (& relationship between Sage & The Villain) is not at HEA yet. But this series has brought me joy even tho things seem bleak for Sage, The Villain and their crew at the end of this. #Romancelandia

August Lane by Regina Black was one of my favorite romances of the month (and probably the year). So angsty with very human and messy characters all of whom I loved. #Romancelandia

In August, I also started Piper Rayne's Plain Daisy Ranch books. I am currently 2 books into this series and have the 3rd one waiting for me on my kindle. Small town romance with ranchers. I am fully invested. #Romancelandia

Going thru my August reads and I have some thoughts about what I read.

The last book I read last month was Maria Anne Lenihan's Morning Glory Girl which I got bc it is set on Martha's Vineyard. A burnt out NY lawyer travels to MV after fainting in the office for the summer. #Romancelandia

August was a great reading month for me. FINALLY bc 2025 hasn't been the greatest of reading years. I actually read 39 books (6 egalleys which is high for me these days, 1 re-read of Stepanie Lauren's Devil's Bride, and 1 print book - Song of the Waves by Anne Hampson). #Romancelandia

You know that feeling when you're reading what is probably the penultimate romance in a series & have been waiting since the beginning for this character's story & the epilogue reveals some BIG & SHOCKING NEWS & now you have to wait for that book to come out??????? I HAVE IT!!!!!! #Romancelandia

There seem to be a lot of serial killer/psychopath romances out these days. And I am oddly drawn to them. Well maybe not so oddly. #Romancelandia

I have read them all and they are fantastic. I highly recommend.
I wrote BDSM rom coms set in Los Angeles. You should read them! They connect to THE LAST DROP if that interests you. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Once in a while I try to read a non-romance. Deanna Raybourn's Killers of a Certain Age & Sarah MacLean's These Summer Storms are ones that work well (altho hated parts of the ending of the latter). But usually it doesn't go that well. I tried to read Emily J Smith's Nothing Serious. #RomanceNovels

Second half of #SongOfTheWave

Fancy dress ball night of cruise. Wendy sewed a Grecian robe. She wears her costume to dinner. She is stunning. All eyes are on her. Garth is a Roman general. She wins a prize for her costume.

She thinks she won't be afraid if he is with her at the end.

I way prefer the Mills and Boon cover to the Harlequin Presents cover. The M&B cover feels more nautical
August 19, 2025 at 3:47 PM
I finished Anne Hampson's Song of the Waves. A Mills & Boon from 1976 and a Harlequin Presents from 1977 (altho I read the M&B version). Talk about stakes. What a crazy ride. #SongOfTheWaves

Anne Hampson's Song of the Waves begins with Wendy getting the diagnosis of a brain tumor with 4 months left to live from her GP (who may have delivered her). She is stunned and asks the dr what she should do. #SongOfTheWave

I am so excited that my copy of Anne Hampson’s Song of the Waves has arrived!! #Romance
