I wrote pointed letters to Senators Moreno (😓) & Husted days ago, urging legislation to limit role of unofficial advisors, protections for career civil servants from arbitrary removal, strict oversight of agency reorganizations & immediate investigation into potential Privacy Act violations.

I read American Dirt without knowing any of the controversy beforehand. I don’t think it was as good as The Women.

Just finished The Women. I thought it was really well done. The criticism I read about Hannah’s main character strikes me as judgment from those who assume too much about their own character—likely untested by anything as devastating as war.

Planning to watch it? I see you can’t get it via streaming, but my local library has the DVDs. The book it’s based on looks like one I might add to my TBR list.

I was in high school when China Beach first aired. 😆

Guess I’m just old 🤣

It’s keeping my interest, that’s for sure. I saw a Reddit thread criticizing Hannah for—among many things—copying China Beach, a TV show I’m familiar with but never watched. I thought it was odd for readers in the discussion to dislike her main character so much. 🤷‍♀️

I am almost done with The Women. This one is already on my TBR list.

I love the recipe. Cookies are fantastic. Shared them with my neighbors—rave reviews!

Testing a new (to me) oatmeal cookie recipe that contains no white flour. Later it will be a walk in a snowy wood.

I think everyone was trying not to burst into tears the day she finished it.

My 8th grade reading teacher (back in the days when reading was a class in addition to English) read our class Where the Red Fern Grows. It was all I could do to keep from ugly crying at the end.

I’m surprised that I’m still surprised by this stuff.
