The first is the microscopic gametophyte phase where they are either male or female and then develop eggs or sperm. Once the egg is fertilized, it grows into a sporophyte, which is the structure we typically associate with kelp.

You can find them throughout the Pacific (Korea, Japan, Siberia, and Alaska to California) dining on bryozoans.

This slug is still in the water on a piece of seaweed (I never take them out of the water). I use an underwater camera for photos of marine critters.
