Oohh. You sound like the ultimate “pilot” test.
I shouldn’t admit this but that’s how I am w/ books. I try to give them a chance but if I’m 10 or 20 pgs in & thinking I’d be having more fun writing something I like better, I’m out.

But I guess that’s the point we’re getting at here. Good characters with distinct traits & unique challenges.
Did you watch or like This Is Us? I didn’t find the 1st ep particularly intriguing (like questions I wanted answered) but it gave me strong emotional reactions that made me care.

There are so many great lines. 😆 Andrea Martin/Sister Andrea has so much great material w/ her brutal wisdom & snarky remarks. AM is def a muse but I’m not biased. 😉 The Kings said they didn’t really write her to be liked but the audience took to AM. How can you NOT like a 70ish demon-fighting nun?

It just seems a lot of 1st episodes these days tend to go more for immediate action and shock value & I’m definitely a character-driven writer.

I think that’s what got me w/ Evil. The 1st few episodes’ monsters weren’t esp shocking & they explained away most of the mysteries but they left enough supernatural to keep me coming back. A good-hearted addict priest-in-training surrounded by non-believers & demons is a great concept, too.

There’s one particular hold-out I followed over there who shares a lot of insight about the biz & talks about what a shame so many jumped ship. Not gonna try to change their mind, but also not worth it to deal w/ the BS just to follow a few ppl. So much happier here. ☀️🌈🐶 ☕️ 🐈☘️ Hope it all works out.

You maybe never heard of French Lick-West Baden IN but I think at least 3 or 4 movies have filmed there in my lifetime. My presence was cut from the parade scene in Blue Chips & recently my sister is at the slot machine in the indie So Cold the River. Most or all extras weren’t paid in these scenes.
