I have friends and family who are old enough to remember how bad things actually were before the current schedule of childhood vaccinations. It breaks my heart that we seem to need to relearn this bc it means death, disability, and grief that could otherwise have been prevented. #VaccinesSaveLives

Health Canada has provided conditional approval to #lecanemab (brand name: Leqembi). This is a big deal, as it marks the first-ever disease-modifying treatment approved for use in Canada for #AlzheimersDisease. It's also important to understand the whole picture:

I ate cold leftover pierogis and beans today because I could not muster the energy to microwave them. I should really know by now that getting covid boosted = one day out of commission and plan accordingly 🙈. (Still better than getting covid).

Just released today: #AlzheimersDisease is now the third-leading cause of death 👀 in Canada. More than ever, we need to promote brain health, improve diagnosis, invest in research, enhance the quality of care, and ensure ppl affected by #dementia are supported. www.cbc.ca/news/health/...

Fun times on a Friday night: my hairdryer broke, so we took it apart, figured out what melted (literally), cut the wires down, stripped a new section, popped on a new marrette, then managed to put it back together again. And! It works! (And no one was electrocuted). #RightToRepair

I don't understand. This could ⬇️ capacity in #LongTermCare when ppl are already waiting over 9 mo to be admitted AND when ~half of alternate level of care days are due to ppl living w #dementia being stuck in hospital bc there's nowhere to discharge them to. vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/09/24/l...

Spent the morning with the Byrne Creek Streamkeepers and Green Teams of Canada today pulling out metres and metres of English ivy at Byrne Creek. Very satisfying! We filled over two large bins' worth of invasives.

Good convo today at the @bccareproviders.bsky.social Care to Chat with the BC Minister of Health. I appreciated the recognition of the importance of community-based care. If we're going to provide best-in-class #HealthCare for older adults, we have to move away from an acute care-dominated model.

Good for them. We were in Tofino recently and you wouldn't believe the garbage we pulled off the beach - all likely brought in on the tide. Rope, fishing gear, bottles, styrofoam, bits of unidentifiable hard plastic - it was both satisfying to clear and saddening that it was there.

Whelp, the home team didn't take the Mann Cup home last night, but Queen's Park in #NewWest was a rockin' place and it was a spirited game. Congrats to the Six Nations Chiefs, and kudos to the Salmonbellies for playing the season out to the very end. Next year!

I was living abroad on 9-11. I remember being told "you must see the news". I felt sick and horrified as I took it in. In the aftermath, I struggled with the fear and divisiveness that seized the community. Hate is an ugly seed that yields poisonous fruit. It's never the way. Love and compassion is.
