I’m way too much on the internet in pursuit of how to stay grounded and solve the world. Yes, you read that correctly.
Its a bit of a Rey Dalio style oversimplification and rationalization, I realize that. I also think there are many other factors at play. But it would seem to me that there is a grain of truth to this mechanism. It would also explain why it seems to be happening globally across the west.

Democratization makes sense for a country with positive economic growth, investor and citizens see opportunity to participate and profit. In a declining country investor can benefit most by supporting anti democrats who can help them consolidate power and pull their wealth out of the economy.

In the west we can say that we have consistently been declining in wealth (if we ignore the stock markets, I believe these have a vested intrest in portraying growth even when the underlying factors don’t match this). This coincides with a decline in trust and democratic values.

If we look at china who is increasingly becoming more wealthy and having a lot of innovation, at the same time I believe the Chinese state is loosening its tight grip on the continent.

Finally, I find the subscription tab really nice for watching shorts.

You get a feed with content you’re subscribed to. This stops you from scrolling endlessly and makes sure you don’t get weird suggestions or political stuff that ruins your mood for the rest of the day.

I also find it very useful to get old videos suggested on my home feed from creators i am subscribed to. I wouldn’t see this on my subscriptions tab.

On Nebula there is no good algorithm tab, so everything i watch there is really only recently uploaded content from channels i already know.

I still find the home feed useful for getting suggestions on interesting topics from creators i don’t know yet.

For example: today i got suggested about a video on how to recognize high quality clothing in today’s clothing shops. It was very interesting, but i wont subscribe to the creator.

Trump is not a good politician either tho, he has a short attention span and is not that good with difficult subjects.

He is mitigates this by relying on other people who are better at this, but he keeps people out who have enough social skills to challenge him as leader of the republicans.

I don’t think this is a good analysis of the Trump/Musk relationship.

Elon is not very good at interpersonal relationships and is generally less effective as a politician.

Trump on the other hand is a real sales person who knows how to communicate and manipulate relationships for his benefit.

Peace never existed, either people were silenced or suppressed or you didn’t hear about conflicts.

The thing that changed over the last 2 years is that wars now effect our comfort.

Wars happen, it’s tragic, but its wishful thinking to believe that we can eradicate war in our current world

Moreover, I think there is a reality where Trump has the opportunity to pardon his kids, but doesn’t. Not because Trump is protective of democracy or a responsible politician but because it doesn’t serve Trump well.

I think Biden pardoning his son speaks to his groundedness, something Trump lacks.
