Generally through smell (pheromones), but sound, color, glow (bioluminescence), electric impulses, and motion are all factors. they can recognize siblings and fish of the same species, but cannot recognize themselves. that’s how they join shoals of fish of the same species as them. 🫧

looks like a spotted jelly or lagoon jelly. (named after its common habitat) scientific name mastigias papua. uses its 4-8 oral ‘arms’ to eat mostly plankton and delivers a mild sting with a burning sensation. bell diameter is 10-30cm and the tentacles are usually the same length!
